Basically i dropped the toolbox element for pernicious deeds and vindicates. dropped the slightly disappointing mox diamonds for a couple more lands and crucible of worlds to try and power up knights even more. i left 2 zeniths in anyway, they still dig up knight of the reliquary and goyfs.
Round 1 bye.
woop.
round 2 Jason with thopter combo
game 1
his draw isnt great and i mise a turn 3 crucible wasteland lock, he doesnt have many basics so my first dude goes all the way.
game 2
again his draw isnt great and my couple of discard spells and couple of dudes get there with a bit of help from a zenith nabbing a pridemage. ensnaring bridge provided a bit of a speed bump, i couldnt blow it as soon as i saw it as he was sitting on an academy ruins, i had to wait out for a wasteland, i did manage to get a few sneaky hits in by exiling his graveyard with bojuka bog to make my tarmogoyf small enough to attack.
round 3 Roy with merfolk
game 1
i see loads of good stuff but lots of it gets countered, the game turns on a massive pernicious deed wiping the board and i ride a goyf to victory. also ripping a vindicate to kill the only other dude he drew post sweep was nice.
game 2
this one goes long, i finally wrestle control of the matchup and am 1 turn from victory except i make a massive punt playing a dark confidant as a blocker when i didnt need a blocker at all, he reejerys the confidant and swings for 2, dropping me to 2 life, dark confidant reveals...hymn to tourach. doh
game 3
i mull to 6 but never get in the game and die to lords.
round 4 ant with tes
game 1 i see no discard and die.
game 2 i see no discard or gaddock teeg and die.
this matchup feels like an utter dog.
so 2-2 overall, some good games but am annoyed at myself for the massive punt, but thats magic i guess.
One thing that did occur to me, although the chance of crucible/wasteland locks is ace, having dropped the moxen, crucible seems a bit pointless.
post tournie thoughts, the deck really needs 4 chalice of the void in the board to sure up the combo matchup, i'll be putting junk on the backburner for a while anyway though, ive got several other decks to try out, im still itching to get some practice in with Urg countertop (although the lions 40 minute rounds might make that awkward) ive got metalworker/forgemaster splashing blue almost finished and ready to test also.
and ive got a hankering to revisit an old classic, stasis. probably wont be any good (especially with 40 minute rounds) but could be fun....for me, not for any opponents.
over and out!
metal worker is the deck i would go for. There is an article on channel fireball today saying that you shouldnt play junk as you need blue in legacy to be good. on the other hand it then goes onto say that B/W discard is okay. i will be trying out my B/W at the next legacy night. a few new ideas from the SCG open B/W decks.
